The (original mark 1) Dharma Bundle was such an authentic gift from the well of knowing - it was kinda a one person (internet) channel ran by you ! Aired monthly it was something to look forward which is the essence of a good subscription.

The creative content was highly original and tangible even on a screen in that you were right there living the now of the content , the teachings were very alive.

Somehow the bundle brought people together which is no mean feat on that big wide web - got us all going for walks with our little earphones in listening to soundscapes.

Bundle is a good word for what you deliver. A delivery of Dharma.

The videos of you faffing about were a real highlight, they got us sharing your garden and I felt like my clothes smelled of smoke after you lit the bonfire .

I rejoice in how you can try something and then burn it down and try something else, and keep doing that. You model impermanence in action. Respect.

I’m also glad you are leaving Substack. I really only joined because of you and haven’t engaged with it in any depth at all. I’m just not interested enough to read content from lots of people online, it’s too overwhelming and blurs into one for me. That’ll be my introvert. Like you though, I also have an ethical discomfort around paid content and haven’t gone any further to support anyone else. It’s funny how it sort of really tests my generosity or maybe it’s a poverty mentality thing that I need to feel the content is really worth it. The only other thing I enjoy from Substack is Austin Kleon’s emails with what’s on his radar, and I look to look at his notebooks.

I’d go as far as to say that your Dharma Bundles were pretty unique - like no other offering I’d seen - and always full of gems. For me, it was how you always highlighted things that I was very interested in and would not have come across without you. I don’t know how you did that, but it always struck me as genius.

I’m looking forward to the Dharma Bundle coming back in its new version and wish you lots of success with the new old things.

PS your shop photo reminded me of that TV show Open All Hours - I wonder do you have a beige grocer’s coat as your new uniform??!

'You model impermanence in action.' I'll use that as a testimonial 😂

Thanks for your kind words and yes I loved open all hours, definitely need a range of uniforms!

I’m delighted you’re going to revive the dharma bundles - I’ve missed them ever since they stopped. For me they felt like the solid, grounded roots and trunk of the bodhi tree, a beautiful, slow and deep exploring of one aspect of the dharma at a time with your guidance, at our own pace and with as much or little communal interaction as each of us wanted. I found the branches shooting out in all directions during your Substack time interesting and stimulating and they led me to some really good things - not least to starting my own (free) Substack, so I’m staying put there, in a quiet corner of the site. But I salute your spontaneous bonfire to get back to the heartwood of your precious offerings (:
